Dennis says:

"This rainbow colorway is maybe the most iconic Burton graphic of all time (so iconic that it made it onto the 1987 Cruzer too!) I've been a snowboard nerd for a long time, and I've *never* seen this deck before (boards from 1986 are very rare!)  No serial number on this board suggests maybe it's a prototype?  Also, it's 1986, so of course there's a surf-inspired fin on the bottom."

Ashley says:

"From an art history perspective, this deck’s distinguishing characteristic is the sticker still mostly intact on the nose from the eyewear brand Croakies. The original Croakies brand began in 1977 when a ski patroller in Jackson Hole, created the first pair of neoprene sunglass straps out of an old wetsuit. Truly a form-follows-function piece of design that became not only a brand but a piece of pop culture. In the 80s and 90s, they were a skier’s delight, but by the naughts, after everyone was wearing a helmet on the mountain they became associated with preppy style most likely because they were so great for sailing! Like any good pop culture moment, the backlash began, and ne'er were they to be found anywhere besides a sailboat or frat house again. That is until 2015 when GQ dared to ask “Wait are Croakies back?” after the style was shown on the men’s runways at Patrick Ervell, Orley, and even a version by Alexander Wang grabbed headlines. This sticker, this artifact shows us the roots of this brand in alpine sports, however, because we don’t know at exactly what point during this undulating wave of popularity and backlash it was placed, we can’t accurately determine if it was to express pure fandom or snowboarder side eye."
